Strategic Plan

Delta Hydraulics (Delta) is a world leading manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic hose assemblies and related parts. With customers in over 30 countries Delta has manufacturing plants in Tasmania, Australia and Rayong Thailand.

The Opportunity

Case New Holland (CNE), Europe’s largest OEM for agricultural and earthmoving equipment was, in the context of disrupted Chinese supply chains, identifying non-Chinese suppliers of critical components such as hydraulics. CNE required that Delta submit its strategic plan so that they could be confident partnering with Delta for the supply of hydraulic cylinders.

  • New multi-national customer
  • Significant increase in revenue

The Approach

1. Workshopped with the owner and key executives of Delta to undertake an internal and external situation analysis

2. Developed a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) matrix assisted by the PESTEL (Political, Environmental, Social, Technology, Environment and Legal) analysis methodology

3. Workshopped with the owner and key executives a core strategy and key operational plans that underpin the implementation of the core strategy

4. Wrote a succinct and “punchy” strategic plan (10 pages) that would be clear to CNE and any other current or potential customers of Delta, as well as Delta’s employee team.

The Results

  • A SWOT analysis and simplified articulation of the company’s strategy
  • Articulation of 4 major operational improvements underpinning the implementation of the strategy
  • A succinct Strategic Plan for communication throughout the company
  • A succinct Strategic Plan for sales and marketing purposes
“The Project Lab worked very fast to assist Delta to produce its Strategic Plan that was succinct and in line with how Delta operates. The Strategic Plan has not only enabled Delta to articulate its plans throughout the organisation but also to bid for more work with major multi-national OEMs." - John White CEO, Delta Hydraulics
