Recently, some of our team did some volunteer work with local Tasmanian wildlife sanctuary, Bonorong.
Bonorong had a simple task they needed help with. How do we increase the use of our volunteers and better understand how each of them can help using a skills register and matrix?
Using the principals of Human Centred Design we ran a series of workshops with the Bonorong leadership team and their volunteers to better understand the culture, their motivations, frustrations, feedback loops and overall experience.
We then defined the problem and challenges better before spending time in ideation sessions to devise a prototype that we could then test.
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary now have a skills register that does more than just list skills, it identifies how to best engage their team of volunteers to ensure they stay motivated ongoing which in turn helps secure the ongoing sustainability and viability of the organisation and welfare of Tasmanian wildlife.
